I enjoyed reading this piece of writing Levi. You have given a good description of the game of football. If I was going to play the game I feel I would have a good understanding of the rules and what would happen out on the field.

Explanation Writing - What is it???????? WALT - describe the features of explanation writing.
To explain how things work or how something happens e.g. why do things float? how are mountains formed?
When writing explanations we use factual language to give detail and we use technical language related to the topic. We write in present tense. We also use cause and effect words. Some examples of these words are:

WALT: use the structure of explain to write an explanation
What is football
Football is a game where there is 11 players on the on field from each team. On the field there are 22 players on at all times and there will always be 3 or 4 or more subs waiting to get onto the field. Every player plays different positions at different times. There is alot of rules to the game including off side and hand ball. There is also a ref and many positions to play. There is yellow and red cards in this game.
Football is a common sport all over the world and is played by more than 200 countries. Soccer is known as the beautiful game. The aim of this game is to get the ball into the oppositions goal and the other teams aim is to get the ball into your goal. But its not that easy, first off you have to get past the whole team by maneuvering around the opposition and if your too aggressive with the ball then you can get pulled up and give the other team a free kick and give your self a yellow card. A yellow card is where the ref is saying to you don’t do that again or im sending you off for the game, and if you do do it again you will be red carded which means your sent off for the game. This game goes for as long as 45 minutes each half so in total 90 minutes.
The positions in football are that each team will have a goalie. In the defense line you can have 4 defenders or less in the midfield you can have four or less and in the striking position you can have four or less but most starting line ups are 4 defense 6 mid field and 1 striker. The striker is the one that scores the goals for your team and will get most of the goals, the midfield is middle part of the team so they are the people who set up the goals and do alot of running, the defense is the part of the team that stops the other side from getting goals scored against them and the goalie is the most important part of the team and they stop the goals from getting scored against you if they have a shot on goal.The minimum length for the football field is 90 metres long and the maximum is 120 metres, and the width of the soccer field is 65 yards.
Now there are free kicks. Free kicks are a vital part in the game because you can be sent off and concede a goal. There are 2 different types of free kicks there is indirect and direct, direct means that if you are far away from the goal like 30 yards away you can just go for goal but say if your 17 yards away from the goal someone has to touch the ball before it goes into the goal and the ball can’t touch your hand. Now we can talk about penalty’s a penalty is totally different to a free kick. You can get a penalty by the ball touching the opponents hand and if you get tripped up in the box (the 18 yard line). If your team is awarded a penalty then you can have a free shot on goal with no one in your way except for the goalie. This is the easiest way to score a goal. If you miss the penalty shot then you might be lucky and the ball can rebound back to you.
In conclusion now you no the rules and how to play the beautiful game. I seriously think that you should give this game a go because you will not only get better skills but you will also make new friends and have a great time out on the field.
